History
The Sports Museum was founded in 1977 as a non-profit museum about Boston and New England sports. Press accounts say it first opened to the public in 1987 in Brighton and moved into TD Garden in 1999.
The building has its own history. The original Boston Garden opened on November 17, 1928. Its successor arena opened in 1995 as the FleetCenter, which is the building we now call TD Garden. The old Garden was demolished in 1998. That is why the museum is a natural place to learn how Celtics and Bruins history connects to the arena you see today.
